The City of Ann Arbor announced on April 1 the launch of an expanded rebate program for electric and manual yard care equipment. The initiative allows residents and businesses to trade in gas-powered equipment and receive rebates when purchasing new electric or manual alternatives.
The expansion aims to reduce pollution and noise from gas-powered yard tools, offering up to 100% rebates for manual equipment and up to 50% for electric versions. Rebates can be used at any retailer, but participants must recycle their old gas-powered tools through a process outlined on the city’s website.
Missy Stults, Director of the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations, said, “We have been thrilled with the response to our pilot rebate program for snowblowers and leafblowers, and we are very happy to be able to expand this program to include more equipment, and to operate year-round.” Stults added, “Transitioning away from polluting gas-powered equipment creates a cleaner, healthier and much quieter Ann Arbor.”
In addition to yard care rebates, Ann Arbor residents can access A2ZERO Home Energy Rebates covering upgrades such as heat pumps, water heaters, battery storage systems, induction cooktops, electrical improvements, insulation projects, air sealing work—and more. Information about these programs is available at osi.a2gov.org/rebates.
Funding for these incentives comes from the Community Climate Action Millage approved by voters in 2022. This work supports A2ZERO—the city’s framework for achieving community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030.
