The Ann Arbor Local Food Festival will return to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market on August 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., according to an April 6 announcement. This marks the event’s fifth year of celebrating Michigan growers and farmers.
The festival is significant as it brings together local food businesses, community organizations, and residents to highlight Michigan’s agricultural and culinary contributions. Organizers say the event provides a platform for participants to reach new audiences, showcase their products, and share their missions with the community.
This year’s festival invites Michigan farmers, food makers, vendors, and community groups to apply for participation. New this year is an opportunity for applicants to host interactive demonstrations or activities in addition to selling products or providing educational experiences. Applications are due by June 1 at 11:59 p.m., with accepted vendors receiving a booth at no cost.
Priority will be given to businesses using locally sourced agricultural goods in their products and groups working within the local food system. All booths are encouraged to promote opportunities for attendees to engage in local food initiatives at home or in their communities. Suggested educational topics include growing your own food, building culinary skills, connecting with cultural foodways, reducing waste, or benefiting ecosystems.
Attendees can expect tastings, demonstrations, live music, games, and interactive learning that showcase the value of a strong local food system. The event is organized by the City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations in partnership with the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and Argus Farm Stop.
