Eastern Michigan University has approved sabbatical leaves for a distinguished group of faculty members for the 2024-25 academic year. The sabbaticals will enable faculty to engage in advanced study and research on topics such as curricula development for electric and autonomous vehicles, employee turnover in the hospitality industry, and the behavioral patterns of tarantulas in Colorado. The sabbaticals were approved by the University’s Board of Regents on June 20.
The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved a 2024-25 General Fund operating budget of $317 million on June 20. The budget's revenues include $220 million in tuition and fees, $86.4 million in state appropriations, $4.7 million from investment income, and $5.1 million from other revenue sources. Expenditures encompass $155.9 million in personnel costs, $63.1 million for University-sponsored financial aid, a net transfer budget of $53.9 million, and $44.1 million for services, supplies, materials, and other expenses.
Eastern Michigan University will award 41 faculty members Faculty Research and Creative Activity Fellowships for the 2024-25 academic year. These fellowships will enable recipients to begin foundational research, including the challenges posed by ChatGPT, ageism and workplace discrimination, and the relationship between trauma, stressor-related disorders, and adolescent substance abuse. The annual fellowships were approved on June 20 by the University’s Board of Regents.

Eastern Michigan University will reintroduce the Communication and the LGBTQ Community (WGST 265) course in the fall of 2024, marking its return for the first time since 2019. The course aims to explore communication patterns both about and within the LGBTQ community, providing students with insights into LGBTQ culture and social dynamics.
