Fenton: In 2022, a contract was established between The City of Fenton Building Department and Lindhout Associates to make improvements to the historical A.J. Phillips Museum, which has been temporarily closed for structural repairs. A motion to amend a contract with Lindhout Associates to include an additional $9,100.00 fee was approved by City Council.
The proposed project included upgrades to the exterior and entrance of the museum including replacing the porch decking and columns as well as the entry ramps and stairs. During initial design work, it was discovered that structural issues in the porch columns, beams, railings, and enclosures would need to be evaluated and addressed. Brad Alvord, the architect for Lindhout Associates, estimated an increase of $9,100.00 to the originally quoted budget to cover the scope of work that will need to be completed to create new structural drawings of the areas that are questionable. Also approved was a contract with Conn Engineering for $2,500.00 to review the architectural drawings for the structural redesign.
The combined work of Lindhout Associates and Conn Engineering approved during the City Council meeting will allow the City of Fenton to budget for this project to be completed in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
