Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) On May 26, 2023, announced that the Ann Arbor Connected Environment project at the University of Michigan will receive $9,859,240 from the Department of Transportation to retrofit the AACE with cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology.
“As consumer and commercial vehicles are becoming safer, smarter, and cleaner, the Ann Arbor Connected Vehicle Test Environment at the University of Michigan is conducting critical research to keep us on the cutting edge of auto innovation and advancement. This funding is a win not only for U-M but for our whole state and mobility industry,” Dingell said. “I’m optimistic about our state’s opportunity to lead the nation and the world in this new era of mobility, and U-M is tackling the challenges and developing the technologies to support the future of connected vehicle technology and infrastructure.”
Additionally, with this grant funding, each intersection will be tested to meet connected intersection design guidelines and methodologies developed by leading organizations. The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) will ready the infrastructure for vehicle manufacturing collaborators to test and deploy new technologies. The project’s vision is for AACE 2.0 to be a national template for commercial deployment of C-V2X that can be rolled out across the country.
