“Republicans today voted for a plan that hurts seniors, veterans, families, and hard-working Americans. Their willingness to slash funding for education, Medicaid, food assistance, students, and first responders, among other things, tells us everything we need to know about their priorities. Raising the debt ceiling isn’t about spending, it’s about fulfilling our commitments and maintaining the full faith and credit of the United States. What Republicans have done tonight is continue to hold our economy hostage in a fruitless attempt to further their own agenda at the expense of American families.”
