Ahnika Gaydos from Rochester, Michigan, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Presidential Scholarship at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). She is among 20 first-year students chosen for this award, which recognizes high academic achievement. The selected group has an average ACT score of 28, SAT score of 1280, and a GPA of 4.11.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and four years of room and board. It is valued at up to $100,000. Recipients are active members of The Honors College at EMU and participate in programs that promote critical thinking, community engagement, and leadership.
Ann Eisenberg, dean of The Honors College, stated: “The Honors College is delighted to welcome 20 wonderful young people as Presidential Scholars for 2025. Each of them has been selected for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership experience, and dedication to community engagement. We expect them to leave a lasting legacy at EMU.”
Gaydos said the scholarship not only eases her financial burden but also acknowledges her efforts. “When I found out that I was selected as a 2025 Presidential Scholar, I was elated and deeply honored,” she said. “It has given me a renewed perspective on my future and inspired me to make the most of every opportunity at EMU.”
Her interest in physical therapy began after sustaining an injury during cross-country running and dance activities. At EMU, Gaydos is majoring in exercise science with plans to pursue doctoral studies in physical therapy after graduation. She intends to engage in research in the university’s running lab and participate in study abroad programs and campus activities.
During high school, Gaydos held several leadership roles such as participating in the Parent-Teacher Student Association, theater program, honor societies, serving as a Girl Scout, interning with a state commissioner, and earning the Presidential Service Gold Award.
“Being named a Presidential Scholar means the world to me,” Gaydos said. “It is recognition of my dedication to my academic and career goals in physical therapy, and validation that my hard work is making a difference. This scholarship motivates me to continue striving for excellence and serves as a reminder of the responsibility I have to use my education to help others.”
Eastern Michigan University states that its Presidential Scholarship reflects its commitment to student success and community impact. Students interested in applying can do so during their senior year of high school through the university’s official channels.
