Eastern Michigan University’s annual Giving TrueDay event surpassed its fundraising goal, with 1,329 donors contributing a total of $1,522,765. The original target was 1,200 donors. The funds will support various campus initiatives and projects.

“Giving TrueDay shows us what this community is made of,” said Maher Salah, vice president for Advancement and executive director of the EMU Foundation. “Seeing more than 1,300 people step forward to give back to the University that they love is not only inspiring, but it helps our students thrive for years to come.”

Faculty, staff, and students organized over 30 crowdfunding campaigns during the event. Supported programs included Swoop’s Food Pantry, the EMU Textbook Affordability Drive, and athletics.

Donors also provided ten matching gift opportunities. These included a $100,000 match for the MAGIC program, a $25,000 match for the Center for Jewish Studies, a $15,000 match for the College of Business, and a $12,000 match for WEMU.

“We are grateful to our donors who have put forth matching gifts,” said Salah. “They spark a domino effect of generosity, inspiring others to step up and support funds that elevate our students’ educational experiences.”

The university stated that donations from Giving TrueDay help ensure students receive financial assistance needed to graduate and access support services and skill-building opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

Individuals who did not participate in Giving TrueDay but wish to contribute can visit the university’s website for more information on how to give back.
