Eastern Michigan University’s Fashion Marketing Innovation program will hold its annual Portfolio Show on April 7 at the EMU Student Center in Ypsilanti. The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., aims to connect students with leading employers in the fashion industry for networking, job opportunities, and internships.

The Portfolio Show is considered an important opportunity for students pursuing careers in fashion marketing. Julie Becker, professor and director of the Textiles Research and Training Institute, and Holly Mosher, full-time lecturer in the program, organize the event each year.

“The Portfolio Show is part of the FMI 437 Senior Portfolio course, which I teach each Winter semester,” said Mosher. “This course is designed to prepare students to walk into the fashion industry ready to succeed. Dr. Becker and I work closely to bring in the right industry partners each year, and watching students turn those connections into real opportunities is what makes this event so rewarding.”

The show has taken place annually since 2013 and typically draws more than 20 employers each year. According to organizers, about 80% of participating students secure a job or internship as a result of attending. Some receive offers before the event due to strong partnerships between Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and companies in the field.

The Fashion Marketing Innovation program provides training in textile science, design, manufacturing, and related skills aimed at preparing graduates for competitive roles within fashion industries. The university prepares students to make significant contributions through its educational focus according to its official website. EMU’s campus features both historic architecture and modern facilities that support student success according to its official website.

Eastern Michigan University has received national recognition for programs across various fields according to its official website. The institution offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and minors as well as numerous graduate programs according to its official website. James Smith served as president of Eastern Michigan University according to its official website.

Looking ahead, organizers say they hope continued partnerships with industry leaders will help future cohorts find similar success.
