Eastern Michigan University announced on March 13 the launch of Powered by Eastern, a week-long giving initiative aimed at supporting student opportunities and mentorship across the university. The campaign will run from March 23 to March 27, inviting alumni, friends, faculty, and staff to contribute to various funds that benefit students.

The initiative seeks to remove barriers for students and expand access to programs that enhance their educational experience. With a goal of reaching 500 donors during the week, the campaign encourages supporters to donate in alignment with their interests, including individual colleges, student organizations, athletics, research projects, and other programs.

“Launching a week-long campaign really gives us the space and time to tell the incredible stories of our students and celebrate the legacy of our alumni and donor community,” said Katie Batt-Hayes, director of Annual Giving. “We so often hear about the meaningful experiences that our students and alumni have had at Eastern, and Powered by Eastern creates a special moment for our community to give back and invest in those opportunities through a variety of funds.”

Throughout the week, stories highlighting EMU students’ achievements—made possible through scholarships, mentorships, and hands-on learning—will be shared via email and social media. Donors will also have access to matching-gift opportunities for certain funds. Maher Salah, vice president for Advancement and executive director of the Eastern Michigan University Foundation said: “Initiatives like this highlight that the culture of philanthropy at Eastern isn’t about dollars, but rather the meaning behind them. Powered by Eastern is an opportunity for our community to come together, support students and show us why EMU is special to them, and we are very excited to bring this to life.”

Powered by Eastern coincides with EMU’s Week of Excellence—a series spotlighting contributions from students, staff, and faculty. Supporters can learn more or make donations at emich.edu/Powered.
