Eastern Michigan University Theatre will stage the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder from April 16 to 19 at the Legacy Theatre in the Judy Sturgis Hill building, according to an announcement on April 7. The production, directed by Pirooz Aghssa, will be performed for one weekend only and features a student cast.
The play follows the Webb and Gibbs families in Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” The production is intended to offer audiences a reflection on everyday life. Director Pirooz Aghssa said, “Our Town continues to resonate because it reminds us to appreciate the simple, meaningful moments that define our lives. This production is a celebration of storytelling, community and the lasting impact of theatre.”
Aghssa brings a contemporary perspective while honoring traditional themes as he directs his final EMU Theatre production after 35 years in theatre. Students are involved both on stage and behind the scenes, gaining hands-on experience with a nationally recognized work. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 16, 17, and 18; additional shows will take place at 2 p.m. on April 18 and April 19.
Tickets cost $20 for regular admission, $15 for seniors, and $12 for students; they can be purchased online or at the EMU Ticket Office during business hours. Accessibility resources such as fidgets, headphones, sunglasses, and large-print programs will be available at all performances.
