Eastern Michigan University will recognize outstanding students and organizations during the 2026 Student Gold Medallion Awards, scheduled for March 24 in the Student Center Ballroom in Ypsilanti, according to a March 10 announcement. The event, themed “Art Nouveau in the Garden,” aims to celebrate significant contributions by students and student groups to both campus life and the wider Ypsilanti community.

The Gold Medallion Awards are considered the university’s highest form of student recognition. All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students in good standing are eligible for nomination, as are officially recognized student organizations. This year’s process requires nominators to submit a detailed letter outlining each nominee’s impact on campus and within the community. Award categories include Eagle Ambassador, Exemplary Leadership, Exemplary Mentorship, Community Engagement, Workplace Integrity, Rising Star, Inclusive Excellence, as well as organizational honors such as Exemplary New Student Organization and Exemplary Student Organization Event.

A new addition this year is the Presidential Difference Maker Scholarship—a $2,500 award for the upcoming academic year—encouraged by President James Smith. The application deadline is March 13; Smith will announce the recipient during the ceremony.

The awards are coordinated by a committee representing various departments including Alumni Engagement and Campus Life.
