Eastern Michigan University announced on March 31 that its Mental Health Task Force and the Mental Health and Wellness Research Collaborative will host the First Annual Mental Health Summit: Building Bridges on April 8 at the EMU Student Center in Ypsilanti. The event, which is open to faculty and staff, aims to address mental health challenges among college students by fostering collaboration between campus and community partners.
The summit is intended to strengthen support networks for students by encouraging communication and coordinated care across different groups. Organizers say that participants will include mental health professionals, researchers, and practitioners who will review recent student survey data and focus group findings to identify actionable strategies for supporting student well-being.
“It is critically important that we have representation not only from EMU support providers but also from community providers to build crucial support networks,” said Ron Flower, EMU professor and chair of the EMU Task Force on Student Mental Health and Well-Being. “We hope this will become a signature event as we work to develop a continuum of care for young adults in our community.”
The program includes working sessions focused on reviewing data about student needs, with opportunities for attendees to collaborate during breakfast, two main sessions, a break, and lunch. Registration information is available through the event webpage.
