The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced on April 7 that its Eastern Upper Peninsula Citizens’ Advisory Council will meet on April 14 in Newberry.

The meeting will focus on a range of topics, including a new digital tagging option for hunters called eHarvest, updates on the 2025 deer season, results from recent camp surveys, and proposed changes to deer hunting regulations. The council will also consider supporting a recommendation from its wildlife committee.

The session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the DNR’s Newberry Customer Service Center located at 5666 State Highway M-123. Additional agenda items include reports from various division staff, ongoing business matters, and subcommittee updates.

Members of the public who wish to attend virtually or provide comments can contact Kristi Dahlstrom by email at DahlstromK@Michigan.gov or by phone at 906-226-1331 for details.

According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, both eastern and western Upper Peninsula citizens’ advisory councils are designed to offer local input on regional programs and policies. The councils help identify ways for the department to be more effective and responsive while providing guidance based on members’ experiences. Council recommendations are forwarded directly to the DNR for consideration.

Information about applying for future council vacancies as well as meeting packets and agendas can be found on the council’s DNR webpage. For further information, individuals may also contact the DNR Upper Peninsula field deputy’s office.
