FOIA Request to Eastern Michigan University regarding Public University FY 2024 Employee Salaries on December 5, 2025.

The Ann Arbor Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Eastern Michigan University seeking detailed records of employee compensation for the fiscal year 2024. The request, sent on December 5, 2025, is made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format.

The request specifically asks for comprehensive data on all individuals employed by the university during Fiscal Year 2024. It acknowledges that many institutions define this fiscal year as spanning from approximately September 2024 through July 2025 but allows for variations based on the university’s official definitions. The request also seeks clarification on any differing date ranges used by the university.

The requested records or reports should include various data fields such as Fiscal Year, Employee Name, Gender (if recorded), Age or Year of Birth (if not exempt), Date of Birth (if not exempt or limited to month/year), Employer Name, Title or Position, Department, Hire Date, Compensation Amount (including base pay and additional pay), Compensation Type (e.g., salary, hourly, stipend, bonus), and Employment Type (full-time or part-time).

Acknowledging that not all fields may be present in every record, the Ann Arbor Times requests that all responsive records be produced regardless of field completeness. If any part of a record is deemed exempt from disclosure, they ask for non-exempt portions to be released in redacted form rather than withheld entirely.

As members of the media committed to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency, we at Ann Arbor Times emphasize our role in disseminating information to the public. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.

This request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA and Sunshine Laws. Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
