FOIA Request to University of Michigan Ann Arbor regarding Public University FY 2024 Employee Salaries on December 5, 2025.

The Ann Arbor Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor seeking detailed records of employee compensation for Fiscal Year 2024. The request was made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., and the information is requested in electronic format.

The request specifically asks for comprehensive data on all individuals employed by the university during the specified fiscal year. This includes various details such as employee name, gender, age or year of birth, date of birth, employer name, title or position, department, hire date, compensation amount (including base pay and any additional pay), compensation type (e.g., salary, hourly, stipend, bonus), and employment type (full-time or part-time).

It is noted that if any portion of a record is deemed exempt from disclosure under applicable laws, the requester seeks the release of all non-exempt portions in redacted form rather than withholding entire documents. Additionally, as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information and holding public institutions accountable.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this organization can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
