Hundreds of gaming enthusiasts are preparing to attend the Gamers for Giving LAN Party, which will take place April 10–12 at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center, according to a Mar. 31 announcement. The charity event, founded by EMU alumnus Zach Wigal, aims to raise $1 million this year to support hospitalized children through video gaming.

The event is organized by Gamers Outreach, a nonprofit focused on improving hospital experiences for children using video games. Funds raised during the weekend will help install new equipment and meet increasing demand from hospital partners worldwide.

“Gamers Outreach began as a passion project during my time as a high school student. My college years at EMU played a huge role in shaping both my path and the organization’s early momentum,” said Wigal. “Bringing Gamers for Giving back to Eastern isn’t just a logistical choice, it’s a homecoming. This community believed in our mission from the start, and it’s where I first saw how gamers could rally to make a real difference. The funds raised each year help us deliver technology and equipment that give hospitalized kids moments of joy, connection, and normalcy when they need it most.”

Walter Kraft, vice president for communication at EMU, said: “Eastern Michigan University is proud to host Gamers for Giving, and we are deeply grateful to Zach Wigal and the entire gaming community for the passion and purpose they bring to this event. What began as Zach’s idea here at Eastern has grown into a national movement that changes lives. The dedication of gamers, volunteers, and supporters shows how a community united by play can create real impact for children and families facing medical challenges.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit programs such as GO Karts—portable video game kiosks designed specifically for hospitals—and Save Point machines that distribute toys or prizes as encouragement during treatment.
