The Michigan Department of Transportation announced on April 14 that the eastbound M-58 (State Street)/Brenner Street intersection in Saginaw will be closed for additional storm sewer work starting Wednesday, April 15. The closure is expected to last until Friday, April 17.

This project is part of a larger investment of about $13 million aimed at rebuilding 1.1 miles of eastbound M-58 (State Street) from Avalon Avenue to M-84 (Bay Street). The work includes road reconstruction and paving, installation of storm sewers, improvements to sidewalks and driveways, and new traffic signals. The department said the schedule for this work depends on weather conditions.

During the closure, northbound and southbound vehicles will not be able to cross M-58 (State Street) at this intersection. Eastbound M-58 remains closed with traffic detoured onto westbound M-58 (Davenport Avenue), which has been temporarily converted into a two-way road with a center turn lane for the duration of the project. According to the department, “This long-term investment will provide a smoother ride and extend the service life of the roadway.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation manages nearly 10,000 miles of state highways as well as more than 4,800 bridges and other infrastructure across Michigan according to its official website. It employs over 2,800 people statewide and operates seven regions along with numerous transportation service centers according to its official website.
