The Michigan Department of Transportation announced on April 7 that it will begin resurfacing a 3.2-mile stretch of M-66 from M-60 to S Drive South near Athens starting April 13. The work, conducted with contractor Lakeland Asphalt Corp., is scheduled to continue through July 31 and will involve single-lane closures.
This $900,000 project includes milling and asphalt resurfacing, new pavement markings, and sidewalk upgrades that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. According to MDOT, the investment is expected to directly and indirectly support eight jobs during construction.
Officials say the improvements are intended to enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians. New pavement and markings are expected to improve ride quality and lane visibility for motorists, while upgraded sidewalk ramps will make pedestrian access easier.
