The Michigan Department of Transportation announced on April 10 that it will begin resurfacing five miles of M-86 between Shimmel Road and M-66 in Nottawa Township starting Monday, April 13. The project, which is expected to last until July 31, will involve single-lane closures along the affected stretch.
This $4.5 million investment aims to improve road conditions for drivers and extend the lifespan of the pavement. The planned work includes an asphalt overlay, shoulder widening, crack seal treatment, chip seal application, guardrail upgrades, shoulder corrugations, and new pavement markings. According to economic modeling cited by MDOT, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 38 jobs.
MDOT said that road resurfacing improves ride quality and helps maintain safe travel for motorists. “Road resurfacing improves ride quality and extends the life of the pavement,” according to the department’s announcement.
