Eastern Michigan University has named Magnus Vescelus from Noblesville, Indiana, as a member of its 2025 Presidential Scholar class. Vescelus is among 20 incoming first-year students selected for this distinction. The group demonstrates strong academic performance, with an average ACT score of 28, SAT score of 1280, and a GPA of 4.11.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship provides up to $100,000 in financial support, covering full tuition, fees, and four years of room and board. Recipients are active participants in The Honors College at Eastern Michigan University, where they engage in critical thinking activities, community service projects, and leadership development.
Ann Eisenberg, dean of The Honors College at EMU, said: “The Honors College is proud to recognize our 20 new Presidential Scholars for their many accomplishments in high school. They not only achieved a high level of academic success, but they also embraced opportunities for leadership and community engagement. We expect that they will make the most of their time at EMU and have a positive impact on the institution. We are looking forward to celebrating their future accomplishments and successes.”
Vescelus maintained a GPA of 4.022 while serving as vice president of the Students Against Cancer Club and leading the Noblesville Cadet Program as captain for three years. He volunteered as a photographer and coached a blind hockey team for people with disabilities. Vescelus also met with members of Congress to advocate for cancer-related legislation.
Vescelus said: “I’ve always struggled to give myself credit or recognize my own accomplishments, and I often doubt myself, but it feels fantastic to be recognized for my achievements. This scholarship represents the growth I’ve worked toward over the years. To me, this scholarship also honors their unwavering support and the incredible strength they showed during some very difficult times.”
He plans to major in public safety administration with a minor in psychology at EMU. His goal is to improve responses to individuals experiencing crises or mental health emergencies by working with nonprofit organizations to expand access to essential resources.
“I have truly loved my time thus far at EMU,” Vescelus said. “It’s beautiful, full of opportunities, and I have met some of the most amazing and kind people here. I know that as an Eastern Eagle I’m in good hands, and I’m excited to see what’s next.”
