The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) announced on April 6 that it has launched the tax side of its new MiUI platform and will begin offering a series of free online seminars to help employers and third-party administrators adjust to the new system. The first live seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, with additional sessions set for April 15 and April 22. Quarterly wage reports are due in the MiUI system by Monday, April 27.

The UIA’s transition to the MiUI platform marks a significant change for small business owners and payroll administrators who previously used the MiWAM system. The seminars aim to guide users through wage reporting and payment processes in MiUI, providing live demonstrations and opportunities for questions.

According to the announcement, those unable to attend a seminar can access detailed guidance through “MiUI University,” an online resource hub that includes information about quarterly reports, payment requirements, and acceptable file formats. Notably, files submitted in the old MiWAM format (Form 1028) will no longer be accepted under the new system.

The move from MiWAM to MiUI is being rolled out in two phases: tax functions are now active while benefits functions are expected later this summer. The UIA said this transition is intended to offer a more user-friendly and secure experience for both employers and third-party administrators.

The Small Business Association of Michigan aimed to lead advocacy efforts for small businesses across the state, according to the official website. Brian Calley was featured as president and CEO of SBAM according to its official website. SBAM extended its services across Michigan as part of its mission according to its official website.

SBAM functioned as a nonprofit advocacy organization focused on supporting small businesses statewide according to its official website. Its support included membership services, insurance offerings, resources tailored for small businesses, and ongoing statewide advocacy efforts according to SBAM’s official site.
