The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) awarded Cintas Corporation K15 in Westland the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award on Apr. 2, recognizing the facility for its workplace safety and health efforts.

The award is MIOSHA’s highest level of recognition for employers who go beyond regulatory compliance to implement strong safety and health management systems. This recognition highlights ongoing efforts to prevent injuries and illnesses at worksites across Michigan.

Kristin Osterkamp, MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training Division On-Site Safety and Health Program Manager, said, “MVPP represents the highest level of recognition for workplace safety and health in Michigan. This program is about building a culture where safety is part of everyday operations and employees are actively engaged in protecting themselves and their coworkers.”

Cintas Corporation K15 earned this status after a thorough evaluation process that included program review, onsite assessment, and employee interviews. The Westland facility employs 95 workers who provide contamination control garment processing services to industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and electronics. Only 29 worksites statewide currently hold MVPP Star status.

Employers participating in MVPP work closely with MIOSHA to continually improve their programs. These sites serve as models for other organizations by demonstrating how strong systems can reduce injuries while improving overall operations. Cintas maintains more than 140 Voluntary Protection Program Star sites nationwide.
