City of Portage issued the following announcement on Mar 18.

The Kalamazoo County Office of Emergency Management and the Portage Department of Public Safety – Fire Division will participate in a Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 23 at 1 PM. This tornado drill is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week from March 20 – 26. When the siren sounds or you get an alert during the Statewide Tornado Drill, take a moment to think:

• What will you do?
• Where will you go?
• Do you have a plan?
• Do you have a way to get alerts?
• How will you communicate?

Wherever you find yourself (especially outdoors), the time to answer these questions is during a drill, not when you are facing the real thing.

During Severe Weather Awareness Week, the Kalamazoo Office of Emergency Management (facebook.com/KalamazooCoOEM) and Portage Department of Public Safety (https://www.facebook.com/PortageMIPublicSafety) will post severe weather awareness tips and topics to their Facebook pages. Tune in all week to learn about staying safe in severe weather. Visit www.michigan.gov/miready for more information.
