Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced on April 1 that its U.S. sales for March 2026 totaled 211,617 vehicles, reflecting an 8.5 percent decrease compared to March of the previous year. Electrified vehicle sales for the month reached 115,422 units, marking a 2.5 percent increase and accounting for over half of total monthly sales.

The report shows that electrified models continue to play a significant role in Toyota’s portfolio, with both Toyota and Lexus brands offering a combined total of 32 electrified vehicle options at dealerships. This aligns with broader industry trends toward increased adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles.

For the first quarter of the year, TMNA recorded total sales of 569,420 vehicles—a slight decline of just 0.1 percent from the same period last year. Electrified vehicle sales during this period amounted to 287,276 units or about half (50.5 percent) of all TMNA’s first-quarter deliveries.

Breaking down by division, Toyota posted March sales of 182,606 vehicles (down by nearly seven percent), while Lexus reported March deliveries totaling just over twenty-nine thousand units (a decrease of more than seventeen percent). Despite these declines in overall volume for March and mixed quarterly results across divisions—such as a modest gain for Toyota division in the quarter—certain models performed strongly: “Toyota Corolla Cross Gas and Grand Highlander Hybrid achieved an all-time best-ever,” while “Lexus RZ and NX Plug-in Hybrid achieved an all-time best-ever.”

Andrew Gilleland, senior vice president at TMNA’s Automotive Operations Group said: “Our first-quarter performance demonstrates the underlying strength of our business… We maintained stable sales year-over-year, even while navigating production constraints and limited inventory during the ramp-up of our traditional volume leader, the new RAV4. This resilience gives us great confidence as we continue driving toward our full-year goals.”

Looking ahead, TMNA maintains among the lowest incentives among full-line manufacturers according to its announcement and continues efforts to expand its presence in sustainable mobility.
