The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) announced on April 8 that employers and unemployment account administrators can now register for online seminars about filing quarterly wage reports and making tax payments using the new MiUI platform.
These live Employer/TPA Seminars on Wage Reporting and Payments in MiUI are scheduled for Wednesdays throughout April. The sessions aim to guide participants through updated file formats, submitting wage reports, making payments, activating MiUI accounts, and assigning third-party administrators before the first quarter reporting deadline of April 27. According to UIA, with the launch of the first phase of MiUI, reports and payments can no longer be submitted using the previous Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) platform.
The agency said that these seminars will not address individual account questions; those seeking such assistance should contact the Office of Employer Ombudsman by phone or email. Information about initiating accounts, new file formats for quarterly wage reports, and instructions on how to test and submit wage reports is available at Michigan.gov/MiUIUniversity.
MiUI is described as a modern tax and benefits solution designed to replace the more than decade-old MiWAM system. The agency said it streamlines processes, enhances security, provides a more intuitive interface, and incorporates anti-fraud protections. The first phase rolled out in February for employers and third-party administrators; phase two will become available this summer.
In addition to MiUI resources, UIA has introduced other tools including an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot at Michigan.gov/UIA for general unemployment questions from both desktop or mobile devices. Employers also have access to an Advocacy Program for appeal support, interactive dashboards with unemployment insurance data trends in Michigan, a Modernization Workgroup involving business and labor leaders offering insight into service improvements, an Employer Help Center at Michigan.gov/UIAEmployerHelpCenter with plain language guidance on taxes and claims issues, as well as newsletters providing updates about UIA programs.
The Bureau of Labor and Economic Opportunity aims to broaden economic opportunities across Michigan according to its official website. It serves residents statewide by providing services related to economic development initiatives such as workforce training programs, housing support services, mobility solutions for workers or job seekers—including unemployment assistance—and operates within broader efforts focused on economic growth according to the official website.
