As the limited supply of face masks becomes a major concern locally and nationally, Operation Face Shield has created hundreds of 3D-printed face shields, according to MLive.
Ann Arbor registered nurse Kevin Leeser told MLive, “It’s basically gone viral like the (coronavirus), and (requests) have increased. People in the maker community who have connections to all of these different shops started to become aware of what we were doing. It’s been a perfect storm.”
Operation Face Shield has issued more than 700 masks already. It’s accommodating the public with a drop-off at Ann Arbor Distilling Company.
The organization has served nearby hospitals like St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Bryant Community Center and hospitals in Adrian, Flint and Traverse City.
Lasser said the face shields have been a success thus far. “The response we’ve been getting back from nurses [doesn't] fall on deaf ears. I’m definitely touched that what we’re doing is appreciated.”
