Cost of college went up for all students at Washtenaw Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.6 percent for 2018-19 at Washtenaw Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $4,104 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $144 more than the $3,960 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 34.5 percent more than residents this year, or $5,520. Their price tag grew 4.1 percent from $5,304 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 65 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 355 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2 million and 148 students took out student loans totaling more than $717,409.

Including all undergraduates (12,264), 4,446 students used grants or scholarships totaling $19.4 million, and 2,674 students took out $14.8 million in federal student loans.
