EIGENRISK: Hurricane and storm surge watches are expected later today

Zz

EigenRisk issued the following announcement.

Tropical storm Zeta is expected to intensify to hurricane strength when it reaches the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday. The storm will bring hurricane conditions with heavy rain and storm surge to the northern Yucatan Peninsula tonight and early tomorrow, with tropical storm conditions forecast for western Cuba later today. On Tuesday, heavy rainfall is expected for much of the Gulf of Mexico, from the Yucatan to the Cayman Islands and western Cuba.

Hurricane and storm surge watches are expected later today.

Zeta is the 28th storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, which is the second-most active season on record, behind 2005. To date, 10 storms have made landfall in the United States, with 7 of them making landfall before September. This record breaking activity is fueled by ongoing La Nina conditions.
