Half of City Has New GFL Containers; Friday is Hauler's First Service Day

Owenswastemanagementinc

City of Fenton recently issued the following announcement.

The transition from Republic Services to GFL Services as the city’s refuse and recycling collection vendor continues, and not without its inconveniences. Everyone at City Hall appreciates everyone’s patience as we work to ensure the best switchover we can. Here’s a quick update on where things stand.

New GFL cartsGFL reports that it has delivered a little more than half of the city’s allotment of containers. Most of those have been delivered to households getting 65-gallon containers for both trash and recycling. That’s good progress, but it does mean that many households will not have containers by Friday, the first day of service by GFL. Above, you can see GFL's new carts at their staging area in the city.

If you don’t have carts by Friday, please place your refuse out in properly secured bags and any recycling in a box. To avoid investigation or destruction by critters, it might be best to put the trash out Friday morning. The city has a commitment from GFL that no route will begin collection earlier than 7 a.m.

The good news is that almost all containers will have been delivered by GFL’s first day of regular Wednesday service on Oct. 6. So if a resident doesn’t have a box for recycling on Friday, it's a short wait to the next recycling day, when they will likely have a container.

Cart swaps and orders

If residents receive a cart size they did not expect, the city asks that they wait until Oct. 6 to call City Hall at 810-629-2261 or email refusecart@cityoffenton.org. Residents have until Nov. 17 to request different container sizes at no cost.

Republic’s container collection

Republic began collecting its containers in the city on Monday. The city’s suggestion is that residents should put their Republic carts out at the curb until they are picked up. The city will not cite residents that have carts at the curb until Republic’s recovery is complete.

If you see acts of carelessness or vandalism, or if someone trespasses without permission in order to recover a Republic container, please call City Hall at 810-629-2261 or the Fenton Police Department at 810-629-5311.
