Helen DeVos Children's Hospital issued the following announcement on Apr 9.

This week is Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week. It's an opportunity to highlight the needs of adolescents and young adults with cancer and share valuable resources among organizations. Here at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, we are working to raise awareness and honor our adolescent and young adult patients by sharing one of their stories.

Meet Kiersty Obando, 21, one of our patients in oncology. She believes it’s important to have a community to relate to, where she can find advice when feeling stuck. Her favorite activity when undergoing treatment at the hospital is hanging out and watching TikTok videos. Kiersty said AYA Life specialist Morgan Syme provides support by accompanying her to appointments and organizing fun events.
