Bobbers were jumping, and anticipation was building as each English Learner, and Spanish Immersion student went fishing these past two weeks during YCS Grizzly Learning Camp! While some students wished not to hold their fresh catch, others could not wait. It was a joy to see five-year-olds confidently pulling their fish out of the water, demonstrating to their teachers that they could do the same when it was their turn. Make sure to ask Diego about his big catch of the day!
The staff of Spring Valley Trout Farm in Dexter happily cleaned each of our YCS catches. Some students wished to have the standard parts of a fish removed, while others were clear in their desire to keep the fish heads, for example, as many fine dishes are prepared with most parts of a fish!
Students were divided into groups, allowing all to not only catch a fish to take home in an iced bag but to also tour the fish farm. Our students learned directly about aquaculture, the raising of both trout and catfish.
YCS Grizzly Learning Camp is full of adventures for all ages. This is the way to enjoy your summer!
