Convention of States Action has issued the following press release:

It is not a secret that our nation is in disarray. Our federal government has reached an unmanageable size. Many of those making decisions on our behalf are unelected bureaucrats. Today we have 15 federal government departments, employing more than 4 million people with a combined budget totaling over 3.5 trillion dollars! Our national debt, including future liabilities, is approaching 200 trillion dollars. At the same time, we are getting less and less in return for this insane spending spree, while our exceptional American freedoms are under attack like never before.

Thankfully, there is a solution as big as the problem!

America's Founding Fathers foresaw the possibility of the federal government's size and powers spiraling out of control. For this very reason, they included a clause in Article V of the U.S. Constitution that allows the States to intervene and pass amendments to the Constitution independent from the Washington DC Machine.

How does it work? It is a simple four-step process, yet the bar is set very high to eliminate the possibility of rogue or extreme changes to our Constitution:

  1. First, resolutions with the same subject matter must be passed by at least 34 of the 50 states.
  2. The states then elect commissioners (delegates) to represent them at the convention. Each state gets one vote.
  3. These delegates propose, debate, and vote on constitutional amendments that must pertain to the subject matter passed in the states' resolutions. Proposed amendments that are passed by these delegates are sent to the states for ratification.
  4. If and only if at least 38 of the 50 states ratify a proposed amendment, it becomes part of the Constitution.
We, at www.conventionofstates.com, are working towards a Convention of States (COS) that will cover the following subject matter:

  • Impose fiscal restraints on the federal government
  • Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government
  • Limit the terms of office for federal officials, bureaucrats, and members of Congress
Interested? Please join Russ Morey's upcoming Town Hall meeting in Ann Arbor to learn more, ask questions, and take action! Just like many others in our area, Russ is a concerned citizen who decided to become involved and make a change. Being convinced that a Convention of States is the big solution we need, Russ now serves as a COS District Captain.

When: September 20, 7 pm

Where: ReMax Platinum, 325 Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor 48103

Russ can be reached by email at russell.morey@cosaction.com or by text message at 734.252.9607. Feel free to contact him for more information about how you can get involved in the fight to reverse the destructive course on which our great nation has been placed by corrupt politicians and unelected bureaucrats, who would like nothing more than to maintain the status quo!

Can't make it to the town hall? Please sign our petition that will be sent to your local elected representatives automatically! In Russ' words: "Signing the petition tells your legislators in Lansing that you want Michigan to become part of the Convention of States to rein in the out-of-control federal government."
