The majority of students in Washtenaw County districts were white in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of the 43,119 students attending Washtenaw County district schools, 58.6% were white. African American students were the second largest ethnic group among Washtenaw County's districts (15.9%).

In the previous school year, white students were still the most common group in Washtenaw County, representing 59.2% of the student body.

South Arbor Charter Academy had the most even distribution of races among the county districts, including 46.6% white students, 18.5% Asian students, 15% African American students, 13.2% multiracial students, and 6.7% Hispanic students.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county dropped 0.8% compared to the previous year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, with white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.
