Eastern Michigan University (EMU) will host a historic walking tour of its campus on Wednesday, July 24, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., as part of the university's 175th-anniversary celebration. University Archivist Alexis Braun Marks will lead the event, offering an educational experience that highlights instructional spaces significant to EMU's history.

"Many people who work or study here may not know much about the history of our campus buildings," said Braun Marks. "This is a great opportunity to learn about Eastern's rich heritage and how our campus has grown through the years."

The tour will begin at Welch Hall, the site of the first training school on campus, and include stops at Roosevelt and Rackham buildings and the original Home Economics House site. Participants will learn about EMU's campus evolution, building repurposing over the years, and various spaces' historical significance.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. Interested participants should register on the website in advance. Future tours may be offered based on interest, with plans for a virtual walking tour for year-round accessibility.

Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University is Michigan's second oldest public university. It serves more than 13,000 students pursuing degrees across various disciplines. National publications regularly recognize EMU for its excellence, diversity, and commitment to applied education.
