Eastern Michigan University will honor Major Frank Maki with a bench dedication ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 3 p.m. The event will take place in the Outdoor Memorial Garden at Roosevelt Hall, located at 698 W Forest in Ypsilanti. A bench donated by the EMU Arm of Honor Alumni Association will be unveiled as a tribute to former EMU instructor and U.S. Veteran Major Maki, recognizing his service and sacrifice.
Major Maki served as an instructor and an Arm of Honor advisor to the campus community for three years. He also served in the U.S. Army for nearly 25 years and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action after saving fellow wounded soldiers during a mission on June 22, 1971, where he was severely injured. The dedication ceremony aims to acknowledge his commitment to his country, students, and the University community.
The ceremony will open with remarks from Jill Hunsberger, EMU's Associate Vice President for Advancement; EMU President James Smith; Tony Pappas from the Arm of Honor Alumni Association; Patti Tye (daughter of Major Frank Maki); Lt. Col. Aaron Peters from the Army Soldier for Life Program; and Kirk Profit from the Arm of Honor Alumni Association. Hunsberger will also offer closing remarks before the public reception begins at 3:38 p.m. in Room 400 of Roosevelt Hall.
