Eastern Michigan University has announced Milani Motton as a Presidential Scholar for 2024. Motton, from Detroit, Michigan, is among 21 students awarded this honor, recognizing academic excellence, leadership, and community commitment.

“The Presidential Scholarship means everything to me,” Motton expressed. “I’m able to pursue a major I’m passionate about, which motivates me to keep working hard and maintain that drive for success.”

The EMU Presidential Scholarship covers full tuition, fees, and room and board for four years, valued at up to $100K. Recipients are part of The Honors College at EMU and engage in opportunities for critical thinking and leadership. This aligns with EMU’s mission to support students' educational goals while making a positive global impact.

Motton graduated from Cass Tech High School with experience in health organizations and aims to study nursing. She was active in the National Honors Society and several clubs focused on medical careers. Additionally, she participated in the Rhonda Walker Foundation's initiatives supporting local youth. After college, Motton aspires to work at Corewell Health as a registered nurse.

Anne Eisenberg, dean of the Honors College, stated: “We are excited to have such an impressive group of scholars join us at EMU this fall. They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries but share a passion for learning, service, and leadership.”

Motton looks forward to engaging with the EMU community: “I am excited to join organizations and engage the EMU community through giving back. This scholarship allows me to explore beyond my limits and discover new connections that EMU offers.”

Students can apply for the Presidential Scholarship during their senior year of high school.

Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849 as Michigan's second oldest public university. It serves nearly 13,000 students across various disciplines through its colleges.
