Eastern Michigan University's game design program has been recognized in the 2025 Game Design School Rankings by Animation Career Review. The university secured the 16th spot in the Midwest and third in Michigan, highlighting its status as a leading program in the region.

The rankings, now in their 12th year, assessed over 150 institutions across the United States with game design programs. Evaluation criteria included academic reputation, admission selectivity, program depth and breadth, employment data, and tuition value.

"We’re proud to see Eastern Michigan recognized among the best in the region and the state," stated Ryan English, assistant professor in EMU’s Simulation, Animation and Gaming (SAG) program. "This ranking reflects the quality of our curriculum, the commitment of our faculty, and the success of our graduates in a rapidly evolving industry."

EMU's SAG program is part of the School of Art and Design and offers a Bachelor of Science degree along with a minor focusing on simulation, animation, and gaming. The NASAD-accredited program combines traditional art with technical skills such as 3D modeling and animation. With around 138 majors enrolled, it prepares students for diverse creative industry roles.

The comprehensive review conducted by Animation Career Review evaluated 154 degree-granting institutions using multiple criteria including academic reputation, employment data, admission selectivity, tuition value relative to student debt, graduation rate, and retention rate.
