Eastern Michigan University (EMU) continues to offer in-state tuition opportunities to students nationwide, including those from Ohio. This initiative is part of a broader effort to make higher education more affordable and accessible. Ohio students have benefited from this offering for decades under a 1980 reciprocity agreement between the Michigan State Board of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents.

EMU's outreach to Ohio students is based on regional proximity and shared academic opportunities. The university, located less than an hour from northwest Ohio, has consistently marketed enrollment in the region for many years. Similarly, Ohio institutions regularly engage with students in southeast Michigan.

The university’s “All Are Welcome Here” message, introduced in 2017, highlights EMU’s commitment to inclusion, access, and student success. This philosophy encourages individuals from all backgrounds to explore their potential, pursue meaningful degrees, and prepare for impactful careers across the country.

Walter Kraft, Vice President for Communications at Eastern Michigan University stated: "Our priority is supporting students in finding their purpose and launching meaningful careers. Whether they're from Michigan, Ohio or beyond, we want them to know that Eastern is a place where their goals are valued and their potential supported."
