Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has been named one of the nation’s top undergraduate institutions in The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges: 2026 Edition. This recognition places EMU among the top 15% of nearly 2,400 four-year colleges across the United States.
The Princeton Review, an education services company established in 1981, produces its annual guide based on detailed surveys from both administrators and students. The guide highlights universities with strong academic programs, active campus life, and high student satisfaction.
Student feedback for EMU emphasized several aspects of campus life and academics. According to survey responses, "Staff are passionate and dedicated, and professors are generally accessible and willing to help you with any questions, projects, or future planning." Another student comment noted that "EMU creates opportunities for their students to grow, learn, and be integrated into the college lifestyle." Additional feedback stated: "Instructors make an effort to make class exciting and more than just a simple teaching course." Students also described the campus environment as relaxed: "The atmosphere on campus is very laid back, and it’s very easy to get involved and meet new friends." They highlighted diversity as well: "Students are active on campus and are diverse in their interests, pursuits, and backgrounds, and thrive on teamwork and communication with each other."
Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University is Michigan’s second oldest public university. It currently enrolls about 13,000 students who pursue a variety of degrees through its Colleges of Arts and Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering and Technology; Health and Human Services; as well as its graduate school. EMU offers more than 300 majors, minors, and concentrations.
