Eastern Michigan University is preparing for the arrival of over 11,000 first-year and returning students as Move-In Day approaches on Thursday, August 21, and Friday, August 22. The university expects a busy start to the academic year as students return to campus.
Move-In Day will focus on streamlining arrivals and offering activities to help new and returning students adjust. First-year and transfer students will arrive on Thursday as part of the EMU Connect program, which includes orientation events designed to support their transition to college life. Other students are scheduled to move in starting Friday.
“Move-In Day represents students taking their first step in their college journey," said Jeanette Zalba, director of Housing and Residence Life at EMU. It can be exhilarating to meet so many others and start this journey together."
The university has planned several activities during the first weeks of the semester. These include meet-and-greet events, academic workshops, and social gatherings aimed at helping students connect with one another.
“The first days on campus are about building relationships, learning about your surroundings, and getting involved,” said EMU President James Smith. “We are committed to meeting the needs of our diverse student body and ensuring they feel supported both academically and personally. We are excited for students to call Eastern Michigan University home as they take part in all that our dynamic campus has to offer.”
Housing options this year include renovated residence halls and two newly built apartment buildings with added amenities.
Students have been asked to consult the Move-In Guide and check-in map before arriving for a smoother process. Details regarding move-in dates, time slots, and logistics are available through the housing portal. Students are also encouraged to coordinate with roommates ahead of time.
Further information about Move-In Day is available on the move-in website.
