Forbes has named Eastern Michigan University (EMU) as one of America’s Best-in-State Employers for 2025. The ranking, in its seventh year, is produced by Forbes and Statista based on a survey of more than 160,000 employees from organizations with at least 500 staff members across the United States. Respondents rated their employers on factors such as workplace culture, career advancement opportunities, and attention to social issues. EMU was among 1,417 employers recognized across state lists.

Kathy Stacey, associate vice president and chief human resources officer at EMU, said, “Eastern is proud to provide an environment where employees can grow, pursue educational opportunities, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Many of our team members have called EMU their professional home for decades, a true reflection of the supportive, family-like culture rooted in our institutional values.”

Nick Pomante, wellness coordinator for the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility at EMU, shared his experience: “My favorite part about working here is the people. I came here as a student because of the personal feel that EMU gave, and that’s also why I stay here as an employee. There aren’t many places you can go where your work family feels like your real family, and that’s a pretty cool feeling.”

EMU provides its employees with competitive wages and benefits packages. Additional offerings include tuition waivers and opportunities to contribute directly to student success.

Founded in 1849, Eastern Michigan University is Michigan’s second oldest public university. It enrolls nearly 13,000 students who pursue degrees across more than 300 academic programs through various colleges including Arts and Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering and Technology; Health and Human Services; and its graduate school. National publications regularly recognize EMU for its achievements in diversity and applied education.
