Eastern Michigan University will host its annual Explore Eastern event on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Center located at 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti. The event is designed for prospective students and their families to learn about the university’s academic programs, campus resources, and student life.

Katie Condon-Martin, vice president of enrollment management at EMU, said, “Explore Eastern is one of the best ways for prospective students and their families to truly experience what EMU has to offer. In a single day, you can learn about admissions, financial aid, and our wide range of academic programs, while also discovering the student support resources that help our Eagles succeed.”

LaJoyce Brown, director of Admission at Eastern Michigan University, encouraged attendees to explore available support services during the event. “We invite students to attend the Academic Support & Success presentation, where they will learn about valuable resources offered through the Holman Success Center, TRIO SSS, and the Disability Resource Center,” said Brown. “Another way to learn about student support services is to attend the Academic Resource Fair, where departments from across campus will showcase the many programs and services designed to help students succeed.”

Condon-Martin and Brown highlighted that campus tours and academic sessions are typically among the most attended activities during Explore Eastern.

“During the academic sessions, students hear directly from faculty and academic leaders about their programs, including unique courses, research opportunities, and strong job placement outcomes,” said Brown. “The campus tours give families a real feel for life at EMU. The tour showcases our walkable campus and includes stops at key spots like the Recreation Center, the Library, and a newly renovated residence hall.”

A feature of this year’s event allows prospective students to apply for admission free of charge while attending.

“At Explore Eastern, students and families have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an admissions advisor while applying for free,” said Condon-Martin. “Advisors can guide students through the application process, talk with them about choosing the right major for their career goals, and even assist with steps like requesting transcripts.”

Eastern Michigan University has received recognition as one of The Princeton Review's Best in the Midwest since 2003.
