Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology (GACET) has announced that five of its academic programs have received renewed and new accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This recognition covers both the renewal of existing accreditations and the awarding of new ones, reflecting EMU’s focus on maintaining high standards in engineering, technology, and computing education.
The university’s Cybersecurity and Information Technology programs were accredited by ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission. The Information Technology program achieved its first-ever ABET accreditation, while the Cybersecurity program was recognized under its updated name and criteria after previously being accredited as Information Security and Cyber Defense.
“These accreditations validate the excellence and innovation of our programs, and we are deeply proud of this recognition,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology at Eastern. “They demonstrate our faculty’s dedication to preparing students for leadership in technology and engineering.”
Faculty members Mohammed Alsaleh, Bilques Ferdousi, Asmaa Radwan, Sean Che, along with others in the School of Information Security and Applied Computing (SISAC), were acknowledged for their roles in achieving these accreditations. GACET also thanked GameAbove for supporting SISAC and the college.
In addition to computing programs, EMU’s Product Design Engineering Technology and Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology programs received six-year accreditation from ABET’s Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. These accreditations apply through September 30, 2031 at both EMU's main campus as well as international locations. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program also earned accreditation during this cycle.
Professors Phil Rufe, Tareq Khan, Qin Hu, Khaled Youssef, Asmaa Radwan, faculty in the School of Engineering, among others were credited with helping secure these achievements.
ABET accreditation is an internationally recognized standard that assures students’ educational experiences meet industry quality benchmarks necessary for careers in computing, engineering or technology fields.
“These accreditations reinforce EMU’s reputation as a hub for innovation and excellence in engineering and technology education,” said Qatu. “We are honored to be recognized by ABET and grateful to our faculty, staff, and partners who made this possible.”
The GameAbove College offers studies across several technical fields including cybersecurity, aviation management, construction management as well as research-informed education aimed at practical applications within scientific disciplines.
