State Representative Jason Woolford (R-Howell) welcomed Vice President JD Vance to Howell, Michigan, on Wednesday during a stop on the Vice President’s national tour promoting the Trump administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” The legislation is designed to cut government waste, support American manufacturing, and provide economic relief to working families.
Woolford opened the event with remarks that highlighted themes of service, accountability, and support for working families. “It was an honor to open for Vice President JD Vance,” said Woolford. “I had the privilege to speak about putting people before politics, and that is exactly what the Vice President represents. His dedication to restoring American strength, protecting our freedoms, and standing up for hardworking families is why I was proud to welcome him to Michigan.”
During his visit, Vice President Vance toured a local precision metal stamping facility in Howell. In his speech, he discussed Michigan’s economic challenges and public safety concerns. He stated his support for deploying the National Guard to Detroit if requested by Governor Whitmer due to rising crime rates. Vance also reiterated the administration’s focus on revitalizing industry and protecting jobs.
The Vice President concluded by honoring Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who he said made a lasting impact on the movement.
“We are working to cut waste, fraud, and abuse in Michigan, just like they are in Washington,” said Woolford. “But cultural responsibility is just as real as fiscal responsibility. If we balance the books but lose our faith, our families, and our freedoms, then we have lost everything that truly matters. We are in a fight for principle. We are fighting for the families trying to pay their bills and raise their children. From the White House to the state house, we are bringing accountability.”
