Winter Chutipassakul of Chonburi, Thailand, has been named a 2025 Presidential Scholar at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). She is among 20 first-year students selected for the award, which recognizes academic excellence. The group of recipients holds an average ACT score of 28, SAT score of 1280, and a GPA of 4.11.
The EMU Presidential Scholarship provides up to $100,000 over four years, covering full tuition, fees, and room and board. Recipients are members of The Honors College at EMU and are expected to participate in activities that foster critical thinking, community involvement, and leadership.
Ann Eisenberg, dean of The Honors College at EMU, said: "The Honors College is delighted to welcome 20 wonderful young people as Presidential Scholars for 2025. Each of them has been selected for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership experience, and dedication to community engagement. We expect them to leave a lasting legacy at EMU."
Chutipassakul expressed her gratitude for the scholarship: "It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was deeply grateful because, without this scholarship, I wouldn’t even be in a position to pursue college in the U.S. It gave me both relief and motivation, and I still carry that gratitude with me every day.”
A graduate of Novi High School, Chutipassakul plans to major in biochemistry with a minor in psychology. She intends to join campus clubs and participate in research opportunities as she prepares for medical school. As an international student, she feels connected to Eastern’s International Student Association and plans to study abroad during her time at EMU.
“My journey to earning this scholarship wasn’t straightforward, but it reflects resiliency that shaped who I am,” said Chutipassakul. “Being named a Presidential Scholar makes me proud, but it also holds me accountable. I know I’m in a role model position, and I want to use that to inspire others who are navigating their own paths.”
The Presidential Scholarship is part of Eastern Michigan University's focus on supporting student achievement and leadership development. Students interested in applying can do so during their senior year of high school.
Founded in 1849, EMU serves nearly 13,000 students across more than 300 programs through its various colleges.
