ANN ARBOR COUNCILMAN JEFF HAYNER (D-WARD 1): Ann Arbor Citizens Academy Applications Being Accepted Now

Academy

Ann Arbor Councilman Jeff Hayner (D-Ward 1) issued the following announcement on Oct.10.

The Ann Arbor Citizens Academy (A2CA) will return for a third year in 2020 to provide a broad view of local government for Ann Arbor residents. During a series of nine weekly sessions, from Wednesday, Jan. 22 to Wednesday, March 18, 6:30–9 p.m., participants will connect with city staff and officials and learn more about long-term city planning efforts, day-to-day operations and the importance of civic involvement.

After participating in A2CA tours, presentations and activities designed to deepen the understanding of governmental functions and services, city staff hopes participants will be motivated to play a more active role in shaping the future of Ann Arbor. Graduates from 2018 and 2019 are currently serving on the City Council, Planning Commission, Public Art Commission, Water System Advisory Board and participating in other exciting projects and programs.

Applications to participate are due by 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. There are two components to the application process. All applicants must complete and submit an online form. The second step is a photo scavenger hunt. Details and the submission information are available on the A2CA website. Each component can be completed at different times.

A2CA is designed to give an overview of the city government for adult residents of the city of Ann Arbor. Therefore, applicants who are under 18 years of age will not be considered. Preference will be given to residents of the city of Ann Arbor over nonresidents. Applicants will be notified by Dec. 17, 2019. The first class begins Wednesday, Jan. 22.
