Michigan Sen. Lana Theis (R-Brighton) announced that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has extended the deadline to file unemployment insurance to July 15.
"After an executive order issued by the governor today, the filing deadline for state and local tax returns has been extended to align with the new federal filing day: July 15, 2020," Theis said in a Facebook post.
Theis said there have been many claims filed, and she offered scheduling information to help Michigan residents when they file a claim for unemployment insurance.
"Due to the overwhelming number of claims, starting tomorrow, here is some helpful information on how you can file your unemployment claim," Theis said in a Facebook post.
There will now be a schedule of when individuals can file their claims. Anyone with a last name starting with "A" through "L" can file their claims Monday, Wednesday and Friday online, and Monday and Wednesday over the phone. Last names that start with "M" through "Z" can file claims online Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and on the phone on Tuesday and Thursday.
