A bipartisan group of Michigan senators have launched an online forum to gather examples of safe social distancing in the workplace, in an effort to pressure Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to reopen the economy faster.

“It’s time to begin planning for a transition back to typical daily life -- including reopening businesses that can operate safely, especially those in which people operate alone or can safely practice social distancing. Unfortunately, Gov. Whitmer’s latest extension of the 'Stay Home, Stay Safe' executive order fails to contemplate this reopening of the economy,” Sen. Lana Theis (R-Brighton) wrote on her Facebook page announcing the forum.

The online forum is intended to gather information and suggestions from Michigan residents as the Michigan Senate's “Safe Behavior for Safe Workplaces” work group fine-tunes plans to reopen the state for business.

The group is looking for examples of safety protocols in the workplace and examples of jobs that have high levels or low levels of interactions with the public. They’re also looking to find out if workers feel they could successfully do their jobs “utilizing current social distancing, hygiene and mask guidelines.”

The website is available at Safe Behavior for Safe Work Workplaces.
