The University of Michigan will resume in-person classes on Aug. 31 and is directing students to quit their jobs 14 days before coming to campus, a release issued recently on Michigan Capitol Confidential said.
The university cited the document Before You Come to Campus, which advises students on steps to take before returning to Ann Arbor. It tells students to start social distancing 14 days before traveling back to college.
“Do not go to work, school or social gatherings” during that two-week period, the university said.
Most students can choose to take classes online from home or in-person on campus.
“Currently available data and registrations imply that approximately 70 percent of credits for undergraduates can be taken remotely this fall,” the document reported. “Many hybrid courses also offer the option to attend remotely as well. There is no requirement to return to campus for your coursework for most majors.”
If students decide to stay at home, they can cancel their housing contracts until Aug. 14 without penalty, the document said.
